The other day I was searching though my closet for a white oxford to wear with a pair of jeans and sneakers. I was in a Jerry Seinfeld kind-of-mood after watching Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee and couldn't shake it. I needed that shirt and nothing was going to sway me in a different direction. I rummaged through my closet in frustration and grew increasingly angry as I realized that it was probably missing. Once I took a minute to breathe I vaguely remembered Chantal running out of my apartment wearing the shirt while I was half asleep. It has become part of our relationship mythology: I buy nice clothes, she takes and wears them before I get a chance to, and whenever I indicate that I'm in anyway annoyed I get puppy eyes and all is forgiven. When it comes to shopping for fall I have a regimented routine. First, I scope out my favorite brands (A.P.C., ACNE, Mark McNairy, etc) to jar my memory and see if there is anything that I HAVE to shell out money for. Next, I go through my bookmarks to see what new brands caught my eye during the fall shows. Finally, I look at Topman, American Apparel and Zara to fill in the blanks and relax my wallet. And of course all of these items are pending approval from the thief herself. She needs to know what she can work into her wardrobe, duhhhh.
Here are 5 of my favorite pieces for fall. I will take them out of the package, put them on hangers and wait for them to end up on this blog...
I've had my eyes on this one for awhile. The brand is a 'poor mans' En Noir and by that I mean leather sweatpants for $800 instead of $1200. So this is all I could really afford and to be honest the leather details are better than all-leather-everything anyway.
I waffled and missed out on a 'buy one, get one free' deal Mr. McNairy had on his ecommerce site last Sunday, but how can I say no to these...
Mad Men is moving into the 70's and even though it has lost some of its cultural relevance (and quality) I think the increase in tartan suits is admirable.
I appreciate the darker color palette. It adds a sense subtly to a print that is usually loud and on the verge of being as overexposed as camo.
Every menswear blogger in the world loses their proverbial shit over PUBLIC SCHOOL. They would do the thirstiest things to get into Milk Studios during NYFW to see a PUBLIC SCHOOL presentation. But seriously, the brand continually creates the perfect minimalist aesthetic. The elastic cuff detail is what really sets this shirt apart for me; it adds a casual/cool touch to an otherwise formal button-up.
