We've made it! The party is finally here. All the planning and preparation is about to pay off. It's the little details that a person doesn't initially think of that cause the most stress: the font is wrong on the invitation it will have to be reprinted, my outfits just not working back to the stores it is, or I forgot to pick up that cord to play the music and what is a party without music... All I know is that I will most definitely be playing some new Beyonce at the next party I throw. Her recently dropped album and video series (with 14 songs and 17 videos featuring Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Jay Z and BLUE IVY) are amazing as she is. Her life is like planning a party everyday - taking care of Blue Ivy, touring, making albums and videos and putting together great outfits (including lots of American Apparel). Not to mention her idol status hair. Stressful, but rewarding?
Compared to Beyoncé's outfit's mine are usually pretty low-key. But sometimes keeping it understated is the key to having good style. I've said it once and I'll say it again: American Apparel is where it's at for basic clothing. What I don't understand is people's constant need to describe the company as 'overpriced'. Unless a person is buying a thick knit sweater, wool or leather items everything is UNDER the $100 range. Not to mention the quality of the garments and fabrics are a lot better than comparable brands like ZARA or Topshop (which often carry higher priced product made with cheaper fabrics and manufacturing techniques). So take advantage of the fact that Saskatoon has one of the largest American Apparelstores in North America. It is always beautifully merchandised and filled with familiar faces (they use tons of local models).
Lately I've been loving pencil skirts and cropped knits. There is something sexy, but sophisticated about the combination that makes it the perfect pairing for a Christmas party. The basic nature of the pieces also allows to dress the outfit up with accessories from Swank Shoe Lounge. The mixed metal accessories add a punch (this is my favorite clutch from Swank, I love the splatter effect and gold goes with anything) and the shoes finished it off with a perfect mix of simple and shiny, not to mention comfortable.
