Lately I've been craving a tropical vacation. Unfortunately, I'm broke (thanks University) so I thought I'd pretend to hang out at a studio beach and invite a friend. My fantasy getaway had a new urban, all-white feeling featuring platforms, 'palm tree leaves' and a pink pineapple. My friend and I had the time of our lives on this mini vay cay pineapple tossing and all. We considered staying there; I would create a hut selling crafts (maybe pink pineapples) and Kaitlin would braid hair and sing. AWW island life! The first thing that comes to mind when I think about platforms is 70's and 90's revival. In the beginning, I wasn't 100% sold, but they are comfortable and give a person instant height without compromising comfort or mobility. Shelly's London offers the perfect mix of quirky and clean. After styling these shoes with colorful, printed outfits I'm exited to pair them with denim cutoffs, leather pants and skirts...(stay tuned).
If you saw Kaitlin walking down the street you would stop, turn your head and think 'She's so gorgeous! What is she wearing?' She is a show stopper and not just on the street, but also the stage. This is where Kaitlin transforms into 'Phoenix Laurén' and showcases her vocal talents (Mary J Blige X Lauren Hill?). Check out her Facebook Page for updates, performances and to just generally creep her swag. Kaitlin was a perfect fit for these shoes as she embody's what it means to be a 'Shelly's Girl' -- confidence and self expression. Let's get to know her...
1. What would you do if you didn't sing?
If I didn't sing, I would definitely still stick to the arts! I actually paint, but never feel like I have the time or resources at this point to really move forward with it. If singing wasn't my first priority I would definitely put my energy into art- or fashion as more of a career.
2. When did your personal style start developing and does it change when you go on stage? Style was something that has always been important to me. Since I don't have as much time to pursue visual art, fashion is an every day way to "paint a canvas". I can easily convey emotions through style and I find that inspiring. For as long as I can remember I put great thought into putting outfits together- and although I've moved on from lime green and Popsicle pink, I still enjoy using fashion to express who I am as an artist. I feel like the only difference when I am on stage to just walking down the street is that I like to be a bit more elaborate- I take more risks in what I wear on stage. It's not that I wouldn't wear those things off stage, but performing gives me a great excuse. I always try to push my boundaries- sometimes I fail. Sometimes I look back at outfits and think "what the hell was I thinking?!" But I feel those moments are also important because it reminds me I am ever evolving, and growing in my personal style.
3. Sneakers or Stilletto's?
Sneakers AND stilettos haha I couldn't ever pick one.
4. Chips or Chocolate?
Chips WITH chocolate. Specifically salt & vinegar with m&m's.
5. Your ideal Boyfriends Closet would be Andre 3000, Jared Leto or Bob Dylan?
Jared Leto. And not just because he's damn fine. His style comes with ease- plus he wears harem pants! Haha and I respect it.
